Home for £1 Scheme
In 2013, Liverpool City Council offered up properties for just £1 in Wavertree, in a bid to get first time buyers on the ladder and bring up the local area. Previously in 2003, the council planned to destroy the area and build new houses, but in 2010 the government funding was withdrawn, leaving 115 houses empty. With the new £1 plan by mayor Joe Anderson, the rules when buying the bargain properties was that they must spend at least £40,000 doing the property up within the first year.
